Mayor Haim Bibas met last Thursday at Yekuteli pub in Maccabim with 60 young residents of the city. "Beer with the mayor" may sound strange, but this was the first time the mayor met with this group to discuss municipal issues.
Sachlavim organized this event. The organization helps young people in school, and employment in the city.
Bibas spoke about the protests, the housing shortage and the need to find solutions that take a long time, sometimes too much. Bibas told the group about the new housing in the Tzippor neighborhood – 990 housing units, of which 200 housing units will be allocated for young couples. In addition 98 residential units will be earmarked in advance for rent.
Bibas also mentioned his plan to promote the city center which is currently undergoing advanced planning including space for shops, cafes and pubs, and 400 units of two and three rooms and studio apartments designed primarily for students and young couples.
Bibas was asked if the city will bring an academic institution to the city and he said that the city is looking at several options. Questions were also asked about employment and work for young people in town. Bibas responded about the development of the Technology Park and the arrival of new companies to the city. Bibas said that he recently visited with Novolog who will need workers, young too, from the city. Bibas instructed the group to create channels of communication between companies and themselves by using Facebook and the city’s site.
The evening was successful and everyone looks forward to the next meeting.
