130 Tickets to Cars in Handicapped Spaces

The city of Modiin has just publicized the number of parking tickets given to cars parked in handicapped spots since April 2012.

It may be hard to believe, but the number was 130. As we have reported during the last few weeks, the city is making a special effort to enforce handicapped parking laws, and also to clear the sidewalks of illegaly parked cars.

The current penalty for parking on the sidewalk is 250 NIS. The fine for parking in a handicapped spot is 1000 NIS, which is unusually high due to the nature of the ticket.

The month of August is an "acclimation month" where drivers who park on sidewalks will only be given warnings instead of fines. Starting September 1, the police will begin giving proper fines.

Keep it in mind as you go about your errands this summer.
